Free email server settings finder

Enter an email address or domain to find its IMAP, POP, and SMTP server names, ports and encryption settings.

No registration required. We look up public DNS records and the Mozilla Thunderbird settings database – we don’t store anything you enter.

Where do these settings come from?

We look up your domain’s MX records to see which provider handles its email, then combine our own list of major providers with service (SRV) records your domain publishes (RFC 6186) and the Mozilla Thunderbird autoconfiguration database used by many email apps.

Want to check that a server is working? Use the email server checker to test its encryption and sign-in methods.

Provider needs OAuth? Keep your app anyway

Microsoft 365, Outlook.com and Google Workspace no longer accept passwords for IMAP, POP, and SMTP. Auth-Email signs in with OAuth for your app, printer, scanner or script, so it keeps working with the settings it already supports.

Frequently asked questions

How does the settings finder work?
It looks up the domain’s mail (MX) records to identify the email provider, checks for published service (SRV) records, and queries the Mozilla Thunderbird autoconfiguration database. It then shows the IMAP, POP and SMTP servers, ports and encryption your app should use.

Should I use SSL/TLS or STARTTLS?
Use SSL/TLS (sometimes called implicit TLS – usually ports 993, 995 and 465) where your app supports it. STARTTLS (ports 143, 110 and 587) starts unencrypted and then upgrades the connection, and is fine as long as your app requires the upgrade.

My provider needs OAuth – what if my app doesn’t support it?
Auth-Email lets apps, devices and scripts that only support a username and password connect to Microsoft 365, Outlook, Gmail and other OAuth-only accounts, using the same IMAP, POP, and SMTP settings they always have.
