534-5.7.14: Please log in with your web browser

GmailSMTPIMAPSign-in problem

The error usually looks like this:

534-5.7.14 <https://accounts.google.com/signin/continue?...> Please log in with your web browser and then try again.

What it means

Google blocked the sign-in because it looked unusual, and wants you to confirm it’s you in a web browser.

Common causes

  • A sign-in from a new location, device or server (WebLoginRequired).

How to fix it

  1. Sign in to Gmail in a web browser, review any security alerts, then try again.
  2. Use an app password or OAuth 2.0 sign-in, which are less likely to be blocked.

Tools to help diagnose it

Can’t update your app to use OAuth?

Auth-Email fixes sign-in errors like this one without changing your app, printer, scanner or script. It signs in to Gmail with OAuth on your app’s behalf, while your app keeps using a normal username and password over IMAP, POP or SMTP.
