What is MIME?
MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is the standard that defines how email messages are structured. A MIME message can contain multiple parts — for example, a plain text version of the body, an HTML version, and one or more attachments — all bundled together using boundary markers.
Understanding the MIME structure is useful when debugging email rendering issues, investigating why attachments aren't displaying correctly, or writing software that processes email. Each part has its own headers — such as Content-Type and Content-Transfer-Encoding — that tell mail clients how to decode and display it.
